When a person meets another person, the appearance is what he or she sees first before getting to know the heart and soul of the other being. Likewise, before a reader lays eyes on the very first word of a book, the cover is what meets the eyes first. Despite the cliche saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, I believe that covers are a reflection of the content to various degrees. The cover of this book is designed to serve that purpose, hence, allow me to explain the meaning behind the design of this cover. The white flower in the center is Chamomile flower, which has been used traditionally as herbal medicine to cure illnesses. As this book is meant to be a remedy for the emotional wellbeing, the flower is symbolic of the healing power of this book to the minds of people. The shade of blue which outlines the bottom of the cover is the color of Oxford University in the United Kingdom, the centuries-old iconic center for learning. This is meant to honor the wisdom of the author, Venerable Dr. Khammai Dhammasami, who pursued his PhD at that same prestigious university. Finally, the white background and the simplicity of the design is deliberate, to represent the ultimate goal for the readers of this book, to have a clear mind free of impurities. May the readers be healthy not only physically but also emotionally.
