In the second of his Hibbert Lectures, delivered in 1881, Mr T.W. Rhys Davids announced the foundation of the Pali Text Society, ‘as the young Society will be called’, an event therefore dating from a hundred years ago. The first of its many publications appeared in 1882 and also the first of its 23 issues of the JOurnal. These ceased 1927 after almost consecutive publication from 1882.
